Caveat is a collective research project initiated by Jubilee, reflecting and acting on the ecology of artistic practice. Emptor continues along the methodology and efforts of Caveat. It actively applies the practice-based approach to 'property', a concept that highly defines the economy of visual arts.

Visitors of an Exhibition Space Are Suggested to 'Do Nothing'

14:00 - 18:00
HISK Gosset site
Rue Gabrielle Petitstraat 4/6, Building A, First floor - 1080 Brussels

Katya Ev's performance Visitors of an Exhibition Space Are Suggested to 'Do Nothing' will be activated from Wednesday 16.12 until Sunday 20.12.2020 and on Saturdays (07.01, 14.01, 21.01, 30.01) from 14h to 18h. Visitors can take a comfortable seat and in return get paid according to Belgium's minimum wage. Your time is unlimited.

Visitors of an exhibition space are suggested to 'do nothing' consists of creating an existential situation in which the visitors of an exhibition space are suggested to sit on a comfortable chair and to get paid for ‘doing nothing’. It deconstructs the idea of 'doing nothing' as losing time, the idea of productivity as valuable, the possibility of being present to yourself as a class privilege.

You can engage in the experience of 'doing nothing' and be payed for it on an hourly basis. The experience takes place 'here' [in the space]. You can decide on the time you stay, you just have to know that that compensation is foreseen for the number of full hours. If you are interested, you will sign a contract. After doing nothing and getting paid, you will receive a proof of payment. All applicable taxes and social contributions have to be paid according to laws and regulations.

Katya Ev's performance Visitors of an Exhibition Space Are Suggested to 'Do Nothing' is part of HISK's laureates exhibition 2020, In a Long Blink of an Eye
