Caveat is a collective research project initiated by Jubilee, reflecting and acting on the ecology of artistic practice. Emptor continues along the methodology and efforts of Caveat. It actively applies the practice-based approach to 'property', a concept that highly defines the economy of visual arts.

Working towards Emptor's third assembly of practice 'Whose institution?' Jubilee invites you to Reading Room #25.

Working towards Emptor's third assembly of practice 'Whose institution?', Jubilee invites you to Reading Room #25. We will gather around texts from the Handbook that accompanies Documenta 15/Lumbung 1, an artist-run and collectively structured edition of Documenta which has implied a significant shift in the possibilities of institutional practice.

Documenta 15 is curated by ruangrupa, a collective of people working in the cultural world hailing from Jakarta, Indonesia. They propose the 'lumbung' as a central method of this edition: a storage in rural areas for surplus rice that is collectively managed. In Documenta 15, or 'Lumbung 1', this is understood and practiced as surplus resources in the broader sense. Their use is decided upon in 'majelis', the meeting group of all 14 invited collectives, and in 'mini majelis', small working groups of invited collectives with a number of the artists that are invited in turn by them. This way, ruangrupa have articulated the practical and economical organisation of one of the world's most important fora of contemporary art as a practice of commoning.
