Sarah Mekdjian & Marie Moreau (Bureau des dépositions)
Biography
Bureau des dépositions is a milieu of creation and study initiated in 2018 by Sarah Mekdjian and Marie Moreau, where ten co-authors create performances, immaterial works, activated in public. Actively articulating their practice as ‘oeuvre-milieu’ instead of ‘oeuvre-objet’, they work towards a new interpretation of ownership in terms of artworks. Their ongoing creative process has the ambition to "sculpt the law by the law." Working on the antagonisms between immigration law and the law of intellectual property, they oppose authorial rights to create and distribute work to expulsion and immigration measures, questioning, politicising and re-activating the authorial function not as an economic right but a right to human ecologies.
