Penthouse Art Residency
Biography
In response to cultural budget cuts and the effects of the financial crisis on artistic production around the world, NH Brussels Bloom and Harlan Levey Projects gallery have cooperated on a new artistic residency program since 2015. We offer artists, curators, critics, writers and theorists a place to live and work, as well as event and communication support for a period of 1 month. Located on the 9th floor of the hotel, during the 1970’s and 80’s, the space was a presidential suite hired by celebrity clientele, such as Michael Jackson or President Ronald Reagan. Over the years, it has become a less decadent area, which was not available for hire. In 2014, the floor was reopened as an art space, offering local and international talent a unique opportunity to work, live and exhibit. Residents host open studios, artist talks and performances to engage with other guests as well as residents from across the city. This artistic residency program is currently managed by Brussels born and based curator Gatien Du Bois.
